A good place for peace and natural beauty.
Derived from the word ‘doors’, the Dooars formsa gateway to the hill stations of North Bengal, Sikkim, Bhutan, Assam and the far East. The unending stretch of virgin forests interwoven with innumerable tea gardens is criss-crossed by Teesta, Jaldhaka, Torsha and Sankosh rivers.
The vast texture of massive trees, rarest orchids, green emerald-like plummage of peacocks dragging the forest floor, wild animals – the Dooars is a veritable paradise for lovers of Nature and Eco-tourism.
Teeming with wildlife, the Dooars is specially noted for sanctuaries – National Park of Gorumara, Mahananda Sanctuary, Buxa Tiger Reserve and Jaldapara Sanctuary. These sanctuaries are habitats of one-homed rhinoceros, bisons, barking deer, reptiles, wild tuskers and the rarest variety of animals and birds. Elephant riding through the Jaldapara forest has become a craze among the tourists.
